hi david,

you don't know me, but i "found" you through my [info]the_oscars community ~ and i felt compelled to visit your profile (which, incidentally, is one of the best i've come across.)

i have a totally random question for you: where did you get the posters of your "favourite films of the decade so far"? i really like what you've done there, and i want to do the same with my profile. (btw, kudos for picking dancer in the dark and you can count on me ~ two flicks that just so happened to make my top 100 list!)

also, if you've any interest at all, i've a feeling you and i might hit it off ~ and i'd welcome the opportunity to be your friend.

t.g.i.f.

richard

p.s. even though it didn't make your top ten, i noticed gosford park in your interests ~ that is my all-time favourite altman flick. you have excellent taste *wink*

I'll definitley add you back. I see that you're also in the Big Brother community, which is wonderful.

And about Gosford Park (a movie I thought to be vastly underrated by a public that relies too much on quick-pacing and traditional plot), there just wasn't enough room. It did make my top 5 for 2001, though. There were so many good movies that year (I didn't even see a lot of them). You know? Maybe I should put Gosford before In the Bedroom. Now that I think about it, it's a lot easier for me to watch more than Bedroom (even thought I've watched both countless times). And when it comes down to a top five, it's pretty much preference from there on out.

1. Moulin Rouge!
2. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
3. Gosford Park
4. In the Bedroom
5. In the Mood for Love
6. The Royal Tenenbaums
7. Memento
8. Donnie Darko
9. The Man Who Wasn't There
10. The Others

The top five were pretty much on equal footing, I just had to put them in some order, haha.

Thank you much for the complements. Oh, aren't you pissed about Will getting kicked out?

Oh! I almost forgot. For the "Best of the Decade" thing, I just put the posters on photobucket and put them on my info in that order using the (img=blah blah blah) with the arrows instead of paranthesis. Space and number where needed.

Feel free to add my movie journal, too: [info]mymovie_journal

heyy... yeah i already posted this then i realized i made some mistakes so... i started over.

you dont know me, but i just joined artfilm101, and saw a few of your posts. i'm hoping by now you've seen cries and whispers. well anyways, i'm 16 too... and now watch mostly foreign and indie films. this year, eternal sunshine, united states of leland, city of god, goodbye lenin, barbarian invasions, saved, and garden state have been my favorites. but absolute film, especially early absolute film, as my favorite genre. the coolest movie i've ever seen is this soviet film from 1929 called man with the (or a.. i can't remember) movie camera. lost in translation was great, other favorites are magnolia, virgin suicides, requiem for a dream, pi, (both of which are masterpieces of cinematography...) 8 1/2, memento, and donnie darko. at the boarding school i go to i'm the president (and founder) of the film society... every friday we show indie and foreign films in the auditorium (there's this badass screen that drops down). on halloween we played sci-fi cult classics like creature from the black lagoon. well, anyway, i'll add you, you add me...

Hey, I'll totally add you. What's your screen name? It'd be awesome to talk to you about movies since you're my age, and everything.

By the way, my name's David. I'm glad you liked Lost in Translation! It seems like the younger crowd and critics are the biggest fans of that film. Most of the people I know above the age of 30 hated it like poison! But it's very personal to me. It came at the right time in my life. I could totally relate to so many levels of its emotional tone and mood. And that Sofia Coppola is a master at mood and tone, actually. She did wonderful with the Virgin Suicides and LIT.

I'll tell you about my favorite movies online. I'm kind of revising my list at this point, heh, since I've seen some really great movies recently.

sn is "its margaret 00" ... i'm margo. i'm on.. all the time. you know you go to boarding school when you're on 12 hours a day. ha. yeah, im me whenever, definitely... i just got this movie from netflix (the best thing... ever) day for night, a french film about filmmaking. i saw this great czech film about filmmaking... the director won lifetime acheivement but i completely forgot what the name is... and then there's 8 1/2, which i hope you've seen, but 8 1/2 and this chezh film are really, really different. its cool though, i find movies about the process interesting. that movie, man with a movie camera, often shows the filmmaker... and at the end it shows him editing and, i can't describe it very well, but you'd be watching it and see the scisors cutting the film. but if you ever see that, mute it because the music is really, well, annoying. i turned on greatful dead instead.
